Kirin

The Kirin is a long-existing creature that roamed the forest and jungles of the Xin Empire. They roam in vast quantities and migration is often cyclical as the seasons change. After a certain age, this migration becomes no longer a part of a herd's seasonal movement, the oldest ones becoming more territorial in their activity. The majesty of certain species within the Kirin family is known to represent prosperity and longevity, while others represent bountiful harvest or otherwise a steadfast absorption of the nature around you. Each variation of the Kirin is treated differently in the various cultures scattered amongst the Empire, with some Kirin more protected than others.

Heaven Kirin

The Heavenly Kirin is often regarded as the highest and most majestic form of the species. Many cultures depict them walking on clouds or trudging through misty mornings across a lake to graze on the most fertile of grass. A part of their diet is also composed of white and red flowers. Although in most areas of the Xin Empire, they are spiritual animals to be left alone in their majesty, in others it is perfectly acceptable to ranch some although in very limited amounts. The venison of this variety is very rarely tasted by man and left to great celebrations or occasions.

Earth Kirin

The many names of this species often refer to steadfastness or long-lasting life. The Earth Kirin is often regarded as a champion hunt or the perfect target for artisan subjects. Although their nimble movements are just as effective as other species of Kirin they prefer to stay in one place, perfectly still for hours at a time. Some myths believe this is because the Earth Kirin is speaking to heaven of their findings, choosing those who would be deserving of ascension. In most cultures, they are an expensive sort of Venison, and often only the more wealthy farmers and ranchers are able to house them as they become much too unwieldy when disturbed.

Wood Kirin

The most commonly seen of the variety of Kirin. The Wood species is often viewed as a sign of bountiful harvest and if wayfarers and sailors spot a herd migrating across the coastline or through the forests it would be a sign of good fortune to come. They are also the most domesticated of the Kirin, their horns working well in certain medicines and as mythical remedies for other plights. Many ranchers sell their venison for a good sum, their meat often seen in specialty dishes.
